Welburn welcomes the Archbishop
Thursday 20 May 2010
The Archbishop of York visited St John the Evangelist Church, Welburn, to celebrate its 150th anniversary.
The Archbishop was welcomed by the Revd Chris Parkin (rector of St John the Evangelist) and the Rural Dean of Southern Rydale, the Revd Dr Quentin Wilson.
The Eucharist Service was held to celebrate the work of the church over the last 150 years. The Archbishop said:
"It is a real joy to share in the celebration of your 150th Anniversary: still joyful: 150 not out"
He encouraged the congregation to celebrate the fact that after 150 years of worship there were still new wonders to experience.
Following the service, the Archbishop and the Hon. Simon Howard, the current owner of Castle Howard, cut the 150th anniversary cake.
