Archbishop Opens York's New Ambulance Station
Tuesday 16 February 2010
The Archbishop of York opens the new Ambulance Station at Yearsley Bridge, York.
Dr John Sentamu was welcomed by Dr Nick Varey, the Chairman of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. He spent time meeting current and retired staff and patients at the new ambulance station before officially opening the new state-of-the-art base.
He was also introduced to twin girls Amy and Erin who were safely delivered when the paramedics had to carry out the role of midwives. The twins now aged 9 months assisted the Archbishop in officially opening the station.
The Archbishop was taken on a tour of the station to see at first hand the new facilities. He said "For most church people whenever they see an ambulance goes past, they say a prayer for the driver, the paramedics, sometimes there are nurses and the patient. That they get there and get there safely.
"This ambulance station is fantastic for Yorkshire."
