The Archbishop of York Says One For You
Wednesday 17 February 2010
The Archbishop spent the day in York meeting shoppers and collecting prayer requests.
Archbishop John Sentamu was in York City Centre today supporting 'Say One For Me', the Church of England campaign which aims to let people know that their church is there to support them and to pray for them at this time of year when the spotlight is on suffering.
The Archbishop accompanied by a team of 14 local ministers were based at three locations in York.
They collected prayer requests and took them to St Helen's Church during this time to pray for people in York. There were special services on the hour at 10am, 11am, 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm.
Dr Sentamu also launched a new facility on his website where visitors can post their prayers online.
Dr Sentamu said: "The Church cares deeply about everyone. We want to listen to people in York and pray for whatever is going on in their lives.
"I think it is important that we meet people wherever they are. That might mean going out into the local shopping centre, or it might be by offering a space online for individuals to contact us whenever it is convenient to them.
"God is always there to offer support for those that need it."
