York City Raise £2,171 For Archbishop's Youth Trust
Saturday 05 December 2009
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, received a cheque for £2,171 from York City Football Club today (Saturday 5th December) which will be donated to the Archbishop's Youth Trust.
Dr Sentamu received the cheque from York City Chairman Jason McGill on the pitch at half time in the game between York and Wrexham. York City auctioned off the shirts from the FA Trophy final from last May at Wembley to raise funds for the charity.
Dr Sentamu said:
"I want to thank Jason and York City for all the support they are giving to the Archbishop of York Youth Trust. York City are a community club committed to supporting local people. This money will go towards helping young leaders in the North of England who are making a real difference within their local communities.
"As Patron of the club I am delighted with the excellent run of form that City has displayed at the start of the season. The current run of seven wins, taking us up to third in the table, has been met with shouts of delight at Bishopthorpe and has been a matter of pride for me as my diary has taken me up and down the country.
"I am also delighted we have been drawn against Premiership opposition for the third round of the FA Cup. Whilst there is no doubt that it will be a tough tie, the day out to a Premiership side – even as doughty as Stoke – will I'm sure be a great day for fans, players and the club as a whole."
