Archbishop of York welcomes Sister Erika and Sister Alison to Bishopthorpe

The Archbishop of York welcomes Sister Erika and Sister Alison from the Order of the Holy Paraclete to Bishopthorpe Palace. They will support the Archbishop in his Ministry and will provide Bishopthorpe with a regular praying presence and commitment to the spiritual life of the Palace community.

The Order of the Holy Paraclete began at St. Hilda's Priory in Whitby in 1915 when Margaret Cope was inspired to found a community dedicated to the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, with education as its chief ministry. Each sister begins her life in the community at the Priory. It encourages a balanced daily life of prayer, work and common life and silence plays an important part in the life of the Order.
The Sisters of the Order already share in the work, worship and mission of the Minster and the Order has pioneered educational work for women in West and South Africa. Over the years the Order has been involved in many different areas of work including hospice care, midwifery training, parish work and vocational training.
The Archbishop of York said "I am delighted to welcome Sister Erika and Sister Alison to Bishopthorpe Palace. Prayer is an important part of the daily working life at Bishopthorpe and they will be a supportive presence for myself and all the staff here."
Sister Erika and Sister Alison said: "We have been really impressed by the welcome we have received at Bishopthorpe. We are excited about being able to work alongside the Archbishop and staff at Bishopthorpe Palace and look forward to supporting the whole community through prayer."
