The Archbishop welcomed the eleven candidates into the Christian faith by baptising them by total immersion in a baptismal pool.  Before being baptised, each candidate told the crowds why they wanted to be baptised, and were prayed for by church leaders from many different church traditions.

After the eleven candidates had been baptised, the Archbishop asked the crowds if anyone else wanted to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ, and two other people came forward.

The service of baptism has been organised by One Voice York, a network of Christian churches and leaders of different denominations working together across the city.
